V Starem Melinu | voyage in the (gastronomic) past of Zagreb
At the very beginning of the Medvednica Nature Park is a restaurant V Starem Melinu which is like a voyage into the past with its looks and gastronomic offer.
The restaurant is open in the mill from the 17th century and is located on one of the better preserved feudal estates in Croatia which was possessed by aristocratic family (Rauch, Ratkay, Vojković, Sermage, Junković) for centuries. Renovated old mill – in which by the end of the seventies of the last century, the locals bought flour – again is powered by the water stream Dubravica.
Homemade bread, venison meals, porridge and pie from ground flour from the mill, authentic dishes of Hrvatsko Zagorje and many other specialties attract with their tastes. Restaurant V Starem Melinu is a touch of the past in the modern Zagreb where with the atmosphere, the authenticity of specialties and excellent wines you can feel the passion and love that went into the revival of the old mill and its restoration.
The spirit of the past is revived through this age old original restored mill, a cultural monument at the preserved farm of Croatian feudal lords on the edge of the Medvednica Nature Park. Now, visitors can eat scrumptious homemade bread baked from milled grain, the exact way it used to be eaten in the 16th century. Old cuisines naturally go best with homemade bread which can be found right here - the authentic antique furniture certainly contributes to the warm and homely atmosphere as well.
